Curriculum: NCHEC Realizing the American Dream
You will learn:
- The steps in the homebuying process
- The steps in the mortgage loan process
- How to shop for a home
- How lenders use credit
- How to budget for a home
- How to properly care for your new home
You have two options for taking our HBE Classes:
In-Person Group Class
- In-Person
- Relaxed group setting
- In-person attention from instructor
- Same cost as online class
- Receive certificate immediately
Group HBE classes are held at our office monthly. The class is 6 hours (with an additional 2 hour Post-Purchase section if requested, see below) and is offered some months on a Saturday morning, and other months as a 2-part class on weeknights.

Online Course

We partner with eHomeAmerica to provide an online option, currently the only online HBE class approved by THDA.

$99 paid through eHomeAmerica’s website
To Register:
To take the online HBE course you must register with eHomeAmerica first. Then register with Clinch-Powell for your personalized budgeting session.
Process:
Once you have completed the online course through eHomeAmerica, you will complete a one hour customized budget counseling session with one of our certified counselors. This personalized attention is not available in a group class and can be done in person or over the phone. Once the course and budget counseling session are completed, you will receive a certificate of completion that is valid for one year.
Post-Purchase Education
Would you like to learn more about the ongoing responsibilities of owning a home? Have you applied for a special program that requires you to complete Post-Purchase Education?
Clinch-Powell’s Post-Purchase Education Program meets all the requirements for certain Down Payment Assistance programs like the HHF – DPA program currently offered in Tennessee.
Post-Purchase Education is currently only offered in combination with our Homebuyer Education Classes.

- How to stay “financially fit” in your new home
- How to properly maintain your new home
- How community involvement can protect your home
You have two options for taking our Post-Purchase Class:
In-Person Group Class
