Since September 2023, AmeriCorps and hundreds of thousands of Americans have been celebrating the agency’s 30th anniversary, marking three decades of dedicated service and community engagement across the country. Clinch-Powell's Appalachia CARES AmeriCorps program has been a cornerstone of positive change, empowering Appalachian communities through volunteerism and civic engagement since its inception in 1996. Now a statewide program, Appalachia CARES placed 84 members with 41 partner sites in the past year, impacting 56 counties. Their initiatives have spanned various areas, including education, environmental stewardship, public health, and economic development.
Over the years, thousands of AmeriCorps members have contributed countless hours to improve the lives of Appalachian residents, fostering a spirit of collaboration and resilience. This milestone not only commemorates past achievements, but it also renews the commitment to continue building a brighter future for Appalachia.
