Appalachian Ministries of the Smokies
AmeriCorps members serving in the ministry center will support the staff and programs of the agency by assisting in the food pantry, organizing donated items, helping with special events and outreach, and completing general daily tasks. AmeriCorps members serving at the Samaritan House will support shelter staff by recruiting and training volunteers, assisting with case management for women and children experiencing homelessness, assisting with the daily routine of the shelter, and planning and implementing activities for residents. The AmeriCorps Garden Coordinator will oversee the planting and care of the onsite garden, as well as distribution of harvested produce to AMOS and other local agencies. They will recruit and train volunteers to assist with this and complete routine progress reports.
All Appalachia CARES AmeriCorps members will complete educational and hands-on projects in the community to address national performance measures, including housing services, conservation, and volunteer management. Specific assignments and targets will be based on the service site and position. All members will complete AmeriCorps training requirements, quarterly reporting, and logging service hours.
