In many ways, the identity of the Clinch-Powell RC&D lies in its many programs. This is where our real work lies, and where we are making a lasting change in the community. We invite you, therefore, to take a closer look at each of the programs the RC&D is currently involved in. By doing so, you will discover that the RC&D is working to improve our community on many, many different levels. Whoever you are, you will likely find below some program that can or is currently benefiting you. Appalachia CARES - An AmeriCorps program that recruits volunteers to do service-based learning in our local schools. Heritage Initiatives - The RC&D is currently working with a number of partners to transform the Nance House in Rutledge into an Arts and Heritage Center. Clinch-Powell Enterprise Community - Clinch-Powell RC&D is the lead entity and financial agent responsible for the Enterprise Community. Find out everything you need to know about this federal designation at the EC home page. Clinch River Community Project - An effort to protect the Clinch, the most bio-diverse free-flowing river in the U.S., from point and non-point pollution. Leadership Programs - Clinch-Powell RC&D has been involved with leadership development programs throughout our area. Environmental Education - We conduct annual education programs which have become very popular across the region. Conservation Camp brings some 1,500 sixth graders to the banks of the Clinch River where they rotate through 23 different learning stations. Water Wizards is a third grade science curriculum of nine lessons in water quality which is voluntarily taught by teachers in more than 3 dozen classrooms. Envirothon is a high school team competition in soils, forestry, aquatic resources, wildlife, solid waste and a current environmental issue which changes each year. We also organize an annual voluntary teacher in-service for 80-100 teachers focusing on environmental education. First Wheels - First Wheels is a statewide program of the Tennessee RC&D Council which provides no interest, no down payment car loans for dependable used cars to eligible Families First participants when transportation is a barrier to finding or keeping a job. Partners for Clean Communities - Part of Keep America Beautiful, a nationwide effort to reducing litter. Clinch-Powell Regional Network - One of the forces behind the creation of this website, this program is designed to increase public participation in local and regional affairs through information technologies such as videoconferencing. Tennessee Wilderness Road - The
Tennessee Wilderness Road CD-ROM is an Interactive Guide to the cultural
and recreational opportunities that exist in the Northeast part of Tennessee Not Barn Yesterday: A Clothesline of Quilts in Appalachia - A series of driving trails that showcase traditional quilt sqaures in a very non-tradional way. These 8'X 8' painted squares hang on barns and other buildings along trail. “All programs and assistance of the RC&D Council are available without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, and marital or family status.
