Programs
In many ways, the identity of the Clinch-Powell RC&D lies in its
many programs. This is where our real work lies, and where we are making
a lasting change in the community. We invite you, therefore, to take a
closer look at each of the programs the RC&D is currently involved
in. By doing so, you will discover that the RC&D is working to improve
our community on many, many different levels. Whoever you are, you will
likely find below some program that can or is currently benefiting you.
Appalachia CARES - An AmeriCorps program
that recruits volunteers to do service-based learning in our local schools.
Clinch-Powell Community Housing DevelopmentDeveloping affordable
single-family homes and helping families realize the dream of homeownership.
Heritage Initiatives - The RC&D
is currently working with a number of partners to transform the Nance
House in Rutledge into an Arts and Heritage Center.
River Place on the Clinch and the Clinch River Conservation Center - Is our tourism and environmental education program located in Kyle's Ford, TN.
Clinch-Powell Enterprise Community -
Clinch-Powell RC&D is the lead entity and financial agent responsible
for the Enterprise Community. Find out everything you need to know about

Clinch River Community Project - An effort
to protect the Clinch, the most bio-diverse free-flowing river in the
U.S., from point and non-point pollution.
Leadership Programs - Clinch-Powell RC&D has been involved with
leadership development programs throughout our area.
Environmental Education - We conduct
annual education programs which have become very popular across the region.
Conservation Camp brings some 1,500 sixth graders to the banks of the
Clinch River where they rotate through 23 different learning stations.
Water Wizards is a third grade science curriculum of nine lessons in water
quality which is voluntarily taught by teachers in more than 3 dozen classrooms.
Envirothon is a high school team competition in soils, forestry, aquatic
resources, wildlife, solid waste and a current environmental issue which
changes each year. We also organize an annual voluntary teacher in-service
for 80-100 teachers focusing on environmental education.
First Wheels - First Wheels is a
statewide program of the Tennessee RC&D Council which provides no
interest, no down payment car loans for dependable used cars to eligible
Families First participants when transportation is a barrier to finding
or keeping a job.
Partners for Clean Communities -
Part of Keep America Beautiful, a nationwide effort to reducing litter.
Clinch-Powell Regional Network - One of the forces behind the creation of this website, this program
is designed to increase public participation in local and regional affairs
through information technologies such as videoconferencing.
Tennessee Wilderness Road - The
Tennessee Wilderness Road CD-ROM is an Interactive Guide to the cultural
and recreational opportunities that exist in the Northeast part of Tennessee
Appalachian Quilt Trail - A series of
driving trails that showcase traditional quilt sqaures in a very non-tradional way. These 8'X 8' painted squares hang on barns
and other buildings along trail.
